A burr maple snuff box with an erotic secret.

French, early 19th century.

Measures 8.2cm in diameter.

The lid is decorated with a pressed image of the ‘Arc De Triomphe Du Carousel’ in Paris. The box opens to reveal an unassuming snuff compartment, however a keen eye will spot a seem running around the base, which unscrews to expose a voyeuristic view of an amorous couple in bed.

The box remains in fine condition with just a couple of historic cracks to the painted miniature.
