Regency-style carved and gilded saddle, Italy, 1st half 18th century

A finely carved and richly articulated baluster column on a round base. The upper shaft is decorated with an expressive bust with decorative palmettes. Concave top carved in relief. Gilded wood.
The small table is still dominated by the clear structure of the early 18th century. It has its original gilding with a perfect patina.
