He exhibited in Antwerp and Ghent in 1870, then took part in the Paris Salon in 1884 and 1885.
Du Mont painted classical scenes in the troubadour style, with many musketeers and belle dame. He also enjoyed painting still lifes with beautiful flowers on dark backgrounds in vibrant colors.
He had a great sense of detail and drawing, which can be seen in our composition, highly rhythmic with the characters' dances, but also in the architecture that punctuates the background.
He takes great care with each character, their facial expressions as well as their body language.
