6th Century Reliquary Bust Of Mary Magdalene

A remarkable Spanish work from the end of the 16th century which honors Mary Magdalene, often considered in order of importance, as the third character of Christianity.
Our round reliquary bust is made of polychrome and gilded painted wood. It bears in gold letter, the following inscription BEATA MARIA MAGDALENA*SPEQVLVN PENITNTIA which could be translated as Saint Mary Magdalene – mirror of penance.
It rests on an oval base in painted and gilded wood.
Our luminous Holy Woman, with the magnificent uncovered hair that characterized her so well, is in tears.
Her elegant clothes feature a delicate filigree arabesque pattern.
Height of 48 cm by 37 cm wide and 25 cm deep.
