Offered by Le jardin des Moines
Our round-shaped carved wooden reliquary, beautifully polychromed and gilded, is imposing to say the least. In addition to its age and the finesse of its construction, it presents a configuration, if not unique, extremely rare, the association of a double bust side by side.
United for eternity, they are Saint Sebastian and Saint January, expressive and solemn. Our Holy Bishop bears the palm of martyrdom and is a contemporary of Sebastian. Both died persecuted during the great persecution of Diocletian.
The first in 288 and the second in 305. The attribution of the palm, the geographical and temporal proximity leads us to believe that this is indeed Saint January. Under the busts, two reliquary niches are inserted at the level of the terrace.
An Italian work – Naples region from the end of the 17th century.
The dimensions are large with a height of 75 cm by 99 cm long and 39 cm deep.
