The artist talentedly offers us a superb thermal establishment where young women spend a moment of relaxation with each other. The place is very richly decorated with marbles and mosaics. Our painting can be compared to a painting on the same subject but of a different composition ("the ladies of Pompeii") sold by Sotheby's New York in 1991, 35,000 dollars, another work from this series (the festival of fountains) reached 120,000 including fees still at Sotheby's in 1996. The painting is signed lower right.

Painter of genre scenes and History, he was a student of the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, he exhibited in this city but also in Palermo, Rome and in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français then at the universal exhibition of 1900. Among his works are cited: the dying widow, exhibited in Florence in 1890, effects of the earthquake, the day before the festival, the preparations for the festival, old market... And a series on ancient thermal baths which has enjoyed considerable success where we see a group of women having a good time in a thermal space of great beauty.
