FAXON Richard

Painter from Bordeaux, born in 1830, he very quickly specialised in seascapes and landscapes.

He was a pupil of Jean-Baptiste Durand-Brager. He appeared in the Paris Salon from 1859 to 1875.
He painted landscapes and seascapes inspired by his native region and the Breton coast.

These seascapes are a blend of French naturalism and British romanticism.
"His skies are always deep, his ships and sailors always well drawn.
These shady skies, crossed by lightning, are his particularity.

His works include: Régates de Royan - Parage de Verdon - Navire en panne - Une barque sur la Garonne - Bateau recevant une rafale .

MUSEUMS : BREST : Fight between an English cutter and a Spanish schooner - Harbour entrance .
