MONTEZIN Pierre Eugène 1874-1946
Painter of animated landscapes, landscapes, urban landscapes, gouache painter, pastellist. Postimpressionist.
His father, a lace designer, got him into a decoration workshop, where he quickly became a mural decorator. Then, greatly influenced by Impressionist theories, he began his artistic career.
He was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 1923, and elected a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Vuillard's place in 1940.
He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, winning third- and second-class medals in 1907 and 1910, and the Prix Rosa Bonheur in 1920.
Montézin's painting was a great success. His technique, a distant legacy of Impressionism, was captivating in its virtuosity.
