Pair Of Italian Louis XVI Mirrors

Pair of Lombard Louis XVI mirrors from the second half of the 18th century measuring 116 x 65 cm with original mercury glass.

This marvelous and above all well-sculpted pair of mirrors presents the unmistakable style of Lombard art, delicately gilded on the reliefs with geometric motifs and carved with vigorous but at the same time delightful movements and figures; movement and refined movement taken from the Roman Baroque but reworked in a less lavish and more elegant way,

All the other elements are treated with symmetry, but always in imaginative and rich forms which are distinguished by the robust carving typical of Lombard patterns.

The main agile and light decoration despite its richness, dare I say, rococo moves along the course of both mirrors in a refined and delicate way and ends with sculpted masks.

The part of the mirrors is also all perfectly intact, they are both mercury mirrors; indeed it turns out to be the original mirror of the dressing table as evidenced by the morphology of the stains matured over the centuries of life. The grindings are typically eighteenth-century in terms of technique and quality. Of particular impact is the representation of these volutes so strong, lively, built in one go with a truly imposing but at the same time graceful and snappy constructive vis.
All glass parts are healthy. The state of conservation, taking into account the fragility and age of the object, is fantastic.
