Femme entrant dans sa baignoire by Alexandre Charpentier, bronze uniface plaque, monogrammed lower right.
Alexandre Charpentier (1856-1909) is one of the artists who contributed to the influence of Art Nouveau in the decorative arts. As a member of Les Cinq, he was instrumental in overturning the hierarchy between the so-called major and minor arts. An active participant in the Salon des XX, where he enjoyed great success in the Belgian capital, he made friends with Constantin Meunier and Théo Van Rysselberghe.
His training as a medallist continued to express itself in his work. Here, he uses it to depict women in an intimate moment of private life, a subject not unlike Degas's many pastels of women in the bath.
