Japan, Bundai Writing Table, in black lacquer, two-tiered, late Meiji period.
This small low table in Japanese lacquer, called bundai, meaning writing table.
The upper tray is slightly raised in width, with flared feet at their base.
An openwork element, highlighted with white metal, very typical of this period, connects the legs on the right and left sides of the table at the level of the inner tray.
The undersides of the feet are also protected with metal.
Completely covered in black lacquer, each tray is adorned with an imaginary landscape using different shades of gold lacquer.
Some minor wear marks as this table has been used, but no structural defects and no restoration.
Placed on a dresser or console, it makes a perfect display for a collection of netsukes or inros.
