Victor CHARRETON (1864-1936)
Victor Charreton, an Auvergne painter born in Clermont-Ferrand, was one of the most gifted artists of his generation.
His success was rapid and his reputation quickly spread beyond the salons, with exhibitions in France, Geneva, the United States and Japan. London, New York, Geneva
He also studied conservation techniques.
This research led to his discovery of painting on "finette", a plush fabric that enhanced the vaporous character of his paintings.
He received numerous medals:
honorable mention in 1910,
silver medal in 1912,
gold medal in 1913.
Charreton's career was marked by numerous medals and a Legion of Honor.
In 1903, he co-founded the Salon d'Automne with painter Pierre Bonnard.
Victor Charreton belongs to a generation of painters
devoted almost exclusively to landscapes,
after the Impressionists.
Almost all his work is devoted to the Auvergne mountains near Clermont-Ferrand.
