André Perrachon trained in painting at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, then in Paris in 1847 with François Lepage and Pierre-Adrien Chabal-Dessurgey, who was the director of the flower painting workshop of the Manufacture nationale des Gobelins.
A. Perrachon is known for his paintings of genre scenes, still lifes and especially flowers. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1850 where he obtained an honourable mention in 1859, then a second in 1863. He acquired his reputation by his ability to give flowers and roses a naturalness of unequalled perfection.
He was elected president of the Société Lyonnaise des Beaux-Arts when it was created in 1887.
He taught painting to Claudia Bret-Charbonnier, Thérèse Guérin, Marie Girard-Nauwelaers, Marie Hodieux-Belous and Mathilde Mitton as well as to his son Joseph Perrachon (1883-1969).
