Pair of finely chiseled and mercury-gilded bronze candlesticks.
The bases with radiant decoration are surrounded by laurel tori.
The baluster-shaped barrels are decorated with acanthus bases and grooves; they support bobeches in the shape of a Medici vase.
A bouquet with three arms of lights transforms the torches into candelabras.
The central part of the bouquet is decorated with an antique cassolette and topped with a cap in the shape of flames, which serves as a snuffer.
Beautiful state of conservation, high quality of original mercury carving and gilding (wear).
Parisian work from the Louis XVI period around 1780.
Dimensions:
Height: 41 cm; Hard bouquet diameter: 24 cm
Our opinion :
The pair of large covered torches that we are presenting is of the greatest rarity.
Although such pairs were not rare during the reign of Louis XVI, few have come down to us with the original bouquets and snuffers.
Too often we find these models as simple torches.
The presence of all the pieces and the very good quality of the carving make our candelabra particularly precious.
