Vanity with snake.
Work by Grego Rodrigue, a contemporary artist born in 1962, sculptor, photographer and decorator.
Vanities are a highly recurrent subject in Japanese art, particularly among netsuke, traditional Japanese objects of dress.
A symbol of ancient derivation, although it often has a negative connotation in the West, in Japan the skull represents the cyclical nature of life and the protection offered by the snake above it, here carved on an acacia root.
We are delighted to present Grego Rodrigue in our gallery, a piece that has its place among our high period objects.
Dimensions with base 32 cm, skull alone 20 cm x 15 cm.
