Gilded and silvered stuccoed wood medallion or carved panel depicting the Flight to Egypt.

Among the episodes from Christ's childhood, the probably imaginary Flight into Egypt is one of the most dramatic: to escape the Massacre of the Innocents, Mary, Jesus and Joseph take refuge in Egypt.

Only the Gospel of Matthew, written around 90 AD, mentions her.

The iconography of the Flight is based on four main characters: Mary, the infant Jesus in her arms, the donkey, and Joseph escorting them.
