Architect's table called Tronchin style stamped Vassou

Architect's table called Tronchin style in reference to the doctor Théodore Tronchin who recommends for his architect patients the use of a table for which the top is tilted depending on whether one wishes to be seated or raised, in order to relieve the back of its users.

In mahogany wood, it rests on 4 sheathed legs ending in grooves and opens with a drawer on the front. The drawer releases a leather-lined shelf, revealing a compartment and is decorated with compartments intended to receive ink and sand.
The top covered in tan leather unfolds to form a desk and is raised by an ingenious mechanism to be able to adjust the height and direction of use. On each side of the table is a leather covered pull.

It is stamped under a crossbar with the mark of the famous cabinetmaker Jean-Baptiste VASSOU (1739-1807).
Established on rue Saint Nicolas under the sign of “La tête noire”, this cabinetmaker moved from 1799 to rue du Faubourg Saint Antoine. He worked a lot for the merchants to whom he delivered many pieces of furniture. Through his work, he enjoyed prosperity, even under the Revolution. Its abundant production includes classically crafted Louis XV and Transition furniture, but especially Louis XVI furniture.
