Sellette with a triton child, Venice 19th century

A polychrome and gilded wooden pedestal depicting a child wearing a turban and holding a tray. He is holding a fruit or shell in his left hand, the body ending in two sea creature tails entwined around concretions. The console rests on 3 rocaille feet.

Venice, early 19th century.

This sellette is in the great tradition of Venetian aristocratic production and taste. It still has its original polychromy.
