Offered by Le jardin des Moines
Our large monstrance is made of silver-plated copper and partially gilded with mercury. Originally receiving a lunula whose notch is still present, it was assigned, at the end of the 19th century, to the exhibition of relics.
We owe the Order of the Visitation to Jeanne de Chantal and François de Sales, whose relics can be found in this precious Monstrance reliquary. Our two Saints find themselves regularly associated, because from their spiritual union the Visitandines were born. In the center, the fruit of this order, is a relic of Marguerite Alacoque, a nun of the same order, beatified in 1864.
The whole is surrounded by a precious assembly of trimmings and beads. At the back are two wax seals as well as its authentic signature from François-Marie-Joseph Delamaire, French archbishop from the beginning of the 20th century.
The monstrance is protected by a box from the same period but undoubtedly brought back.
The old and original monstrance, its box, the relics and their authenticity make it a complete… and rare set.
An Italian work from South Tyrol – 18th century Good condition – small restoration and some losses.
Dimensions of the monstrance: 68 x 24 cm.
