Jeanne Fichel, 1849, 1906. The kitchen girl. Painting representing a young cook allowing herself a moment of relaxation before the meal. She drinks a glass of milk under the attentive gaze of a kitten climbed on her shoulder. Jeanne Fichel is a French painter of genre scenes, mainly representing intimate scenes in an interior. She was a student of Eugène Fichel whom she married. She appears in the book (Women Painters of the World), a directory of the most prominent women painters of the end of the century. She exhibited at the Salon of French Artists from 1869 to 1901. Oil on canvas, signed and dated lower left 1883.
