Saint Mark the Evangelist - wooden sculpture late of 16th century

Saint Mark the Evangelist
Polychrome wooden sculpture
End of the 16th century
Italy, Lombardy
H. 80 x 29 x 10 cm

Splendid wooden sculpture depicting full-length Saint Mark the Evangelist.
The polychromy is still extended over the entire surface and presents the splendid shades of red and gold.
The Saint holds the Gospel in his left hand and shows the Lion at his feet, his unfailing attribute.
The conditions are very good considering the time and, despite the lack of the right hand, the sculpture offers a very impressive image.
