Symbolist nude, oil on canvas by Léonard Sarluis.
Léonard Sarluis was born in The Hague in 1874. He certainly developed a taste for art, surrounded by the objects of his father, an antique dealer, but it was above all the influence of the Italian masters that would be decisive in his art, particularly Leonardo da Vinci, whose first name he took. After unsuccessful studies in finance in Germany, he moved to Paris in 1894. He was introduced to avant-garde circles by Armand Point, with whom he collaborated on the poster for the Salon Rose + Croix.
He illustrated Gaston Pavlovski's "Voyage au pays de la quatrième dimension", in which his phantasmagorical and mystical visions were fully expressed.
