Beauty and its fragility, as a path to spirituality... Our altar top is made up of two angels and a gallery. The orants sculpted in the round face each other on either side of the Altar. Kneeling and absorbed in prayer, they are carried by Grace, here represented by the Cloud, which traditionally manifests the presence of the Most High.
The gallery, an assembly of three distinct elements, is richly worked and crowned by a crown. The crown simultaneously evokes the Messiah-King and the Holy Crown of Thorns. These elements, as well as the angels, are in molded, carved and gilded wood.
The angels measure 57 cm in height by 40 in length and the gallery which accompanies it 66 cm by 60 cm in width.
Please note accidents, worming and missing items.
A 17th century composition that remains touching, despite or perhaps thanks to ... the ravages of time.
