Offered by Torkild
A very rare Anglo-Dutch red-tinted tortoiseshell and kingwood veneered centre table, the rectangular top with ripple-moulded rim and geometrical inlay above a frieze drawer and square tapering legs joined by an H-stretcher on ebonised bun feet.
One drawer.
Ca 1780. The underside of the drawer numbered “204 16” and “14983” in white chalk. Very good condition.
Comparanda :
- A commode, sold by Mallett in 1995, with very similar decoration and inlay, catalogued as “England ca 1780”. Certainly by the same furniture-maker as our table.
- A similar pair of commodes were on sale with Christopher Hodsoll.
