Finely chased and gilded bronze mercury torches with rich rocaille decoration and a love figure supporting the light arm.
Based on a design by Juste Aurèle Meissonnier, a famous ornamentalist of the first half of the 18th century. Born in Turin, Italy, in 1695, he worked in Paris, France, until 1750, and produced an extraordinary collection of designs for objets d'art with pronounced Italian curves and French refinement.
This piece was certainly made from his sketches by the Saint Germain bronzier's workshop, and offers a remarkable quality of execution.
The original model is normally a candelabra, and this is just the torch.
Perfectly preserved period mercury gilding, crowned C hallmark on the underside of the torch.
Louis XV period
Please note: holes for electrification.
