A large boxwood relief of Mary Magdalene.
French, mid 17th century.
The relief measures 22 x 14cm.
The frame measures 38 x 24cm.
The relief shows a weeping Mary Magdalene her clothing an exhibition of virtuoso carving, she holds a piece of her dress to wipe her tears. The kneeling figure originally would have been situated at the base of the crucified Christ as part of a calvary group.
The relief is mounted on a light blue velvet backing, within a 19th century walnut frame.
