S. DUFOSSÉ
(active circa 1830)
Portrait of a musician
Oil on canvas
H. 77 cm; L. 61 cm
Signed on the letter lower left
Unfortunately unidentified, the Dufossé lady who painted this portrait had a certain talent and finesse that many of her colleagues must have envied. Should we be looking for a painter who later opted for the name of her future morning, thus abandoning her maiden name?
Our young woman, posing in a magnificent brown dress, is shown in front of a table on which a lute or small guitar is placed, with only the top visible. To attest to her musical taste, she holds a rolled sheet of music in her delicate hand. The magnificent strawberry collar is adorned with gold jewels and stones, adding a lively touch to the portrait.
Original frame, rechambered and redecorated.
