Offered by Le jardin des Moines
Reliquary frame in carved and gilded wood in an eventful shape decorated with staples, palmettes and acanthus leaves housing in a central medallion, a tender gouache representing Christ with the reed.
Crowned with thorns and wreathed in a halo, he indeed holds a reed, the same reed with which the soldiers had made a derisory scepter for the king of the Jews, and with which they struck him.
At the base are relics of Saint Prosper, whom Prosper liked to write "We believe that every man is a weak reed"...
Circa 1800 - Total dimensions of 39 cm by 25.
Excellent condition.
