16th C Statuette in carved and polychrome walnut wood representing St Lupus of Troyes. Dressed as a bishop, he keeps chained the demon lying at his feet, while presenting the open book of Scriptures.
This iconography symbolizes the superiority of faith over evil ; it illustrates his role as protector of the city of Troyes in front of the hordes of Attila in 451.
