Important brown patina bronze sculpture of Mercure attaching his heel straps after Jean Baptiste PIGALLE (1714-1785).
It is signed EUG. CORNU Paris on the base and stands on a large molded base in griotte red marble.

Eugène CORNU (1827-1899) Sculptor, designer and manufacturer, director of the Compagnie des Marbres et Onyx d'Algérie from 1858, he exhibited a bronze and marble statue of Minerva at the 1874 Salon.
