Shagreen, silver, fossilized mammoth tooth and steel. The oblong case with silver ring has two compartments containing a knife and a fork. The handles are made of fossilized mammoth tooth (great patina) the pommel decorated on the edges with tulips. Knowing that the price of a tulip bulb in the 17th century could reach 1,000 florins and that the average annual income was 150 florins, this gives an idea of what a luxury product a tulip represented and for which public this cutlery was intended.
An unidentified mark (knife only). Excellent condition. Length: 17cm.
