Very good condition
This extraordinary and spectacular battle scene is distinguished by the exceptional panoramic view which, thanks to its extension, depicts the cavalry clashes with heated duels in the foreground and the siege of the fortified city on the horizon.
The large size of the canvas allows the author to express his remarkable ability to describe the details of the excited dramatic moments that characterize this exciting genre of works. The painting unequivocally presents all the stylistic characteristics of the famous painter of French origin Jacques Courtois, one of the most valid authors of battles in the seventeenth century. This important work effectively represents a valid example of the pictorial characteristics that are part of his repertoire. In particular the hand-to-hand duels both with gunfire and with white weapons, the inimitable twisted figures of black and white horses, the distant images of fortresses, towers and walls of fortified cities.
The comparison with the splendid great Battle exhibited in the Prado Museum in Madrid leaves no doubts on the identical analogies, (see link) as well as a painting passed by Pandolfini auktion in Florence also with the same stylistic and chromatic peculiarities.
