A silver gilt iconographic ring engraved with the Seat of Mercy.
English, 15th century.
Ring size P UK / 7.5 US.
The rectangular bezel is engraved with God the Father holding the crucified Christ in a pose known as the ‘Throne of Pity’ or ‘Seat of Mercy’. The undulating band is scooped and pitched creating ten high points for the wearer to use as a ten decade rosary.
This ring was found on Sunday 22nd October 2017 in Dover, Kent and has been recorded in the Portable Antiquites Scheme database, Unique ID: KENT-CF69CE.

There are two iconographic rings in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London with similar engraved images of God the Father holding Christ, Accession numbers: M.241-1962 & 693-1871.
