The ambush, Jan peeter verdussen 1700-1763. Jan peeter Verdussen born in Antwerp around 1700 died in Avignon in 1763. Painter of battles, Flemish school of the 18th century, representing infantrymen struggling with horsemen. Our painting appears in a Parisian sale in 1928 (ref Benezit) and since then in a private collection. Jan peeter Verdussen was much appreciated for these battle scenes which he had made his favorite subjects. Official painter of King Amédée III of Sardinia, he is present in many museums. Oil on canvas signed lower left. Dimensions: Height 36 cm, width 44 cm with frame.
