17th-Century longcase clock of noble provenance, Brabant region (now Belgium) with the coat of arms of the Provincial Governor and his Wife.
Case of waxed oak, with a round window for view of the pendulum wit a gilded lead bob in the shape of a sunburst.
Brass dial with chafed and ormolu spandrels, the chapter ring made of real silver (!). The subsidiary seconds ring in silvered brass, with a round aperture for the moonphases.
Below left a window for the days of the week (« Iours de la Sepmaine ») and the days spelled in Dutch (Woen, Donder, Vrijd…), in the middle a window for the age of the Moon (“Aage de la Lune”, 1 to 29), to the right a window for the days of the month (« Iours du mois », 1 to 31). The three hands in blued steel, the minute hand with the initial S, possibly a dicreet signature of the maker. Below the coat of arms for the wedding of Libert-François Christyn and Isabelle Walravens (1670).
High-quality movement between two brass plates and four turned pillars, low ancher escapement and rear hourly countwheel strike on a vertical bronze bell.
