Edouard-Marcel Sandoz was particularly interested in the underwater world and fish, one of his favorite subjects. In 1923, when he was appointed administrator of the family bio-chemical company Sandoz S.A., he spent several months at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, invited by Prince Albert of Monaco, to study rare fish. A study entitled Fish Sculptures by Edouard-Marcel Sandoz, published in 1962 by Emile Schaub-Koch, under the auspices of the Academy Institute of Coimbra in Portugal, highlights the high aesthetic value of his statuary art and the defines as "fish sculptor": "All of Sandoz's art is not in his fish, of course, but they are one of the most marvelous stopovers of his work and which ensures its durability" writes the author , who also wrote numerous other articles on the sculptor's work and personality, between 1938 and 1952. In 1993, the Catalog raisonné de l'oeuvre d'Edouard-Marcel Sandoz was established by the Parisian expert Félix Marcilhac, published by Editions de l'Amateur. It lists more than 280 models in the chapter of freshwater or deep-sea fish (from n°1326 to n°1606bis, pages 476 to 513).
