Vase, Johann Loetz-Witwe, Silber Iris with foliage (sometimes called Phenomen Genre 1/844), ca. 1901
The company Johann Loetz-Witwe knew how to represent shapes and colors found in nature in glass. The naturalistic representations were always reduced to their most important features and symmetrically idealized.
A beautiful example of this approach is our 24 cm high vase in the form of a flower calyx with leaves. The body of the vase is covered with a strong silver iris decoration and leaves were fused onto the hot glass mass and then warped to form four feet. The green glass mass is interspersed with strong iridescent silver oxide stripes.
