Symbolistic bowl from the Fates-series, designed by Eduard Stellmacher, manufactured by Amphora Riessner Stellmacher & Kessel, Turn-Teplitz, ca. 1902, ivory-porcelain, marked
This bowl is a beautiful example of symbolist craftsmanship of Art Nouveau. Ghostly young women swirl around the rim of the vessel as if caught in a maelstrom, emerging from the surface of the water partly in relief and partly in full sculpture.
The green-blue glaze with delicate gold accents is particularly harmonious in capturing the aquatic world and contributes to the successful implementation of the motif of inescapable fate.
Marked with raised “AMPHORA”-mark, impressed mod. no. “3750”, modeler no.”42?, “G” and handpainted “326”
