Carrara marble medallion representing Louis XIV in profile.
Made in low relief, the portrait of the King is wearing a thick curly wig falling over his shoulders. He is represented in the antique manner, dressed in a tunic held on his shoulder by a fibula.
In this portrait, the King is beardless, he no longer wears his fine mustache, which he shaved from 1694. The composition, treated with power and attention to detail, makes the character's grandeur perceptible and testifies to psychological realism.
This sculpted portrait made at the beginning of the 18th century is inspired by the medallion made by François Girardon, the King's privileged sculptor.
Some accidents visible on the perimeter.
