Exclusive clocks and decorative objects from 18th-19th century
Enticing French bronze sculpture signed Émile Louis Picault (1833-1915) with a beautiful warm brown shaded patina representing an allegory of work. The subject is a young winged man holding a scepter; an open book with geometrical patterns lies at his feet. Also the base has an inscription “Sur le champ du labeur la victoire est féconde” (meaning: on the field of labour victory is fruitful), an allegorical reference to the subject of work.
This beautiful antique sculpture was made by the famous foundry Susse Frères in Paris. It is signed on the terrace “E. PICAULT” (signature partly worn due to age) and on the back of the base appears the signature and stamp of the founder Susse Frères et Éditeurs in Paris.
The sculpture and the patina are in an excellent state of preservation.
Paris, circa 1880.
Dimensions: 55 cm high, 27 cm wide, 25 cm deep. Size of the base: 15 x 16.5 cm.
