19th & 20th century decorative arts.
Set of four walnut klismos chairs, with wide curved back and antique base.
These examples were made around 1840/50.
The design of Jørgen Roed’s furniture is characterized by exquisite quality in both its workmanship and materials, and most of the furniture he designed was for his own home.
At the sale of the estate of N. A. Abildgaard, creator of the Danish neo-antique style from 1790, Jørgen Roed bought a pair of golden chairs from which he would draw inspiration to create his walnut version.
( Both types of chairs are present in the collection of the Design Museum of Denmark ).
