EXPERTIESE: PROF. MARIA PIA MANNINI
He was active in eastern Veneto and Friuli, especially in Udine, where he was hosted for more than twenty years by Counts Leonardo and Giovanni Battista Caiselli, for whom he produced numerous paintings. According to Guarienti's testimony, his father was his first teacher, but later the young man would perfect his skills by assiduously studying the Venetian masters of the 16th century. An admirer of Flemish models, of the "tenebrosi" and their naturalistic accents and of the works of Bernardo Strozzi and Luca Giordano, he was appreciated for the natural chromatism of his paintings, for the mixture of realistic figurative models and rustic tastes, for his swirling brushstrokes and imaginative flair. His son Giacomo was also a painter.
