Pair of crystal vases attributable to l'escalier de cristal circa 1820

Superb pair of crystal vases decorated with a bronze mounting composed of two handles with scrolls and heads of Bacchus, and a hoop held by two rosettes.
The whole body of the vases has a complex S-shaped cut, enriched with a fine wheel engraving which is made possible by the great thickness of the crystal.
The foot and neck of the vase is treated in a naturalistic way with a cut imitating flower petals.
Good condition (small chips), original gilding with mercury.
Work attributable to The Crystal Staircase (L'escalier de cristal) * circa 1820.

Height : 24 cm ; Diameter : 18 cm

*The crystal staircase :

At the beginning of the 19th century, the widow Désarnaud had the judicious idea of combining cut crystal and gilded bronze.
The public was so impressed by the crystal staircase in her store under the arcades of the royal palace that she went further and presented bronze and crystal furniture at the 1819 Salon des Produits de l'Industrie, including a fabulous dressing table and armchair.
The success is considerable, so much so that the two pieces are bought by the late Duchess of Berry.
Having become a supplier to the crown, his store became a temple of Parisian luxury.
If The Crystal Staircase will become a legend and will be known especially for its Japanese productions of the end of the 19th century, let us recall that it is indeed the crystal and the bronze which were the source of the international fame during more than one century of the famous house which moved boulevard of the Opera.
