Very good condition
Magnificent finely painted Russian icon with four sections plus a central oval. Above the "Dormition of the Virgin" and "Unexpected Joy" and below two groups of Saints. In the center of the table is the image of Christ in the "Descent into Hell" and in the frame, on the sides of the work, are depicted two Patron Saints.
The Icon is truly splendid and stands out for its remarkable pictorial quality, for its impressive composition, but above all for the extraordinary vivacity of the colors used.
In fact, the bright colors are particularly pleasant and arouse a positive devotional feeling.
The pictorial style is refined, and expresses the most typical characteristics of the best Russian production of the end of the 18th century, especially of the famous Palekh manufacture.
This small town located north-east of Moscow has become famous for the miniaturistic ability of its iconographers who excelled in the rendering of details and the unmistakable luminosity of the magnificent colours.
